When shopping for a computer business system, you need to first know exactly for what purpose the machine is to be used. For simple word processing and spreadsheets, you don't need a powerful system that is built for high speed graphic design. You can get by with a lower end system if the computer is going to be used primarily for data entry and secretarial work.

Something that has to be kept in mind is that most applications like to have plenty of RAM, even some of the more basic word processing and spreadsheet applications will run a lot quicker if you have at a minimum of 1 to 2 GB of memory. Many businesses look to save on computer costs by cutting memory, not realizing that not having enough RAM will cut down on basic productivity. If it takes longer to pull up an application, or process a data entry input, then time is wasted.

The size of the hard drive is another consideration when determining the purpose of a business computer. If the computer is going to be saving most of its data to a network server, then you can get by with a smaller hard drive than if the computer is going to have to be saving large graphics files locally. For most applications, you can usually get by with a hard drive that is in the 80 to 120 GB size for a system that is not going to be running graphic intensive applications. The other factor is what type of applications the computer is going to need to have loaded on its internal hard drive, rather than a system that may be running a large database application off of a network.

It depends on what a computer is going to be used for as to what type of business computer you should get. You need to purchase a system that will handle the designated workload. A little forethought can end up saving time and money when shopping for a business computer.
